Windows 10 State Repository Service causing High CPU Usage? Here how to fix

Did you notice Windows 10 laptop did not perform well after the 1903 update? Windows 10 freezes while open apps or Microsoft edge browser and State Repository Service causing almost 100 CPU usage? In Windows 10, State Repository Service is a browser-based service, that helps a user to capture and save multiple independent snapshots of browsing sessions on a web browser. So that at a later time, the user can retrieve any saved snapshot on another web browser on a different device and continue accessing any particular saved browsing session in any order according to wish.

  • Click on the Repair button. It may take a while to get everything done.

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and click ok,
  • Scroll down and located service named state repository
  • Right-click on state repository service and select restart,

In case, if the Restart option is grayed out then double-click on the State Repository Service to open its Properties dialog box and press the Stop button first. Once the Service status is stopped, now press the Start button to start State Repository Service again.

Reinstall Built-in Apps in Windows 10

If after resetting edge browser and restart State Repository Service Still, State Repository causing 100% CPU usage? Reinstalling all the built-in applications is another best solution you must try.

Note: Before performing the steps below we recommend to create a system restore point So that if anything goes wrong after reinstall built-in apps you can use the system restore feature to revert back recent changes without any data loss.

Open Powershell as administrator, you can do this by right click on the windows 10 start menu and select PowerShell (admin) Then perform the command below.

Reinstall Built-in Apps in Windows 10

This command will install all the standard applications on your system, After that close the PowerShell window and restart your PC. On the next login, open edge browser and check There is no more high CPU usage by State Repository Service.
