Fix error code: inet_e_resource_not_found in Microsoft Edge

Getting INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND Error while trying to open a website from Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer browser? Most of windows users report after upgrade to Windows 10 Edge Browser results INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND error while opening a particular website that they were able to reach before.

Whenever you will try to access any webpage then you will most likely see a message “Hmm… cannot reach this page” with “Details” button. In order to see the detail about this error, click on the “Details”  

The connection to the DNS server timed out.

There was a temporary DNS error. Try refreshing the page.


The DNS name doesn’t exist


The issue, as mentioned above, is mainly seen after the Windows 10 latest update. So the culprit behind it is the Windows update bug. This means that this will most likely get fixed in the upcoming updates. So, all you have to do is wait for the next updates from Microsoft and in the meanwhile, you can go through the methods given below to get around the issue.

Turn off TCP Fast Open feature on Edge

Basically, you have to turn off the option TCP fast open from your Microsoft Edge browser which will solve this issue. If you don’t know, TCP Fast Open is a feature introduced by Microsoft that improves the performance and security of Microsoft Edge. So, disabling it won’t have any ill effect on your computing or browsing.

To disable TCP fast open Feature first open Microsoft Edge browser. Type about: flags in the URL address bar and hit the enter key. Now, scroll down to find the Network section. Here locate TCP Fast Open and uncheck the box next to it.

Check your UAC Settings

To do this press Windows key + r and type ‘control’ and hit enter.  Click “User Accounts” and click “Change User Account Control settings”.  Make sure the setting is at or above the second level, see the attached image below.

Flush DNS

Flushing the DNS and retrying works for a lot of users as well. So, follow the steps given below and then try Microsoft Edge again. To do this open the command prompt as administrator then type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter. You should see a message Windows IP configuration successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache

Reset netsh  

Press The Windows + X  key and select Powershell ( admin ) To open Powershell prompt. Then type command ipconfig /all > C:\ipconfiguration.txt And hit the enter key to execute the command.

Note: This will save your IP configuration into the ipconfiguration.txt file in C:\

Then type netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt and PRESS ENTER

Next type, netsh winsock reset and PRESS ENTER After that Restart windows and on next reboot open edge browser check its working properly.

Reinstall Edge Browser

If all above fails to fix the inet_e_resource_not_found error then try to Reinstall the Edge browser by following below.

First, open file explorer Click on View and checkmark on the Hidden items box to show hidden files. Then after navigate to:


Note: Replace the “UserName” with your username

Here Search for Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe folder and erase/delete it. If any confirmation window will appear press YES. Wait until the process finished. If any other dialog box appears then click on the Yes to continue. Sometimes system refused to erase some of the files, click on the Skip button. After That Restart your PC.

Now again open Windows PowerShell and type the command below to reinstall edge browser.

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\\AppXManifest.xml” -Verbose}

After Execute the command simple restart windows to give a fresh start. Now open the Edge browser and check There is no more inet_e_resource_not_found error while open web pages.

Also create a new user account on your Windows system and verify that Edge works probably with a clean install.
